about

hey, i’m jen. i am an artist and an art psychotherapist who is a proud mom to a radiant, creative little lady.

my daughter, who i refer to on this web site simply as “N” was born in january 2007. i’m not so much telling you that so that you’ll hand-make her a cool birthday card next year (though that would be fabu!) rather, i’m telling you her birth date so you can deduce her age at the time each art project on this site was created, based on the date of the blog.

as an art therapist, i am extensively trained in choosing art materials and projects that are not only developmentally appropriate, but also ones that invoke confidence in a budding artist. my focus is more on the authentic self-expression, and the engagement in the process of making art rather than the product created. this goes for your child as well as for yourself, as the innately creative being you are. along the way, i hope to provide insight into how to initiate, aid, discuss, derive meaning from, store, display, and celebrate art with your child and with yourself!

my initial goal for this site is to share with parents, caregivers, and teachers various ideas for creative activities to do with kids. as this blog grows, it expands to include ideas to nurture the creative drive that lives within each of us, as well… our kids help us to remember how much fun playing with art can be, and sometimes it’s fun to take your turn with the paintbrush or sewing needles! i hope this site brings you and yours inspiration and plenty of beautiful paint cut paste messes!
